Health Education in Turkey

Turkey is among the top 10 countries in the world according to its development and success in the field of health. Foreign physicians and nurses can work in Turkish health institutions, provided that they have the Diploma Equivalence. In Turkey, health education is in two stages as undergraduate and postgraduate. In addition, health education should be divided into two main groups as Medicine, Dentistry and other departments.

Education in the Faculties of Medicine, Pharmacy and Dentistry (UNDERGRADUATE)

Health education in Turkey lasts 6 years in Faculties of Medicine and 5 years in Faculties of Pharmacy and Dentistry. Anyone who has successfully completed high school education in their country and can obtain the Certificate of Equivalence can enroll in this department.

Private universities accept students only with graduation success points without an exam. Although the graduation success score varies according to each university, the average success should be 60%.  They may also demand additional requirements such as an international exam. You can study in Turkish and English at private universities. Tuition fees vary between 12,000-20,000 USD/year.

In order to enter the Faculties of Medicine at state universities, you must pass the YÖS (Foreign Student Exam) with a high score (depending on the university and generally 95% and above). But they may demand additional requirements. The language of instruction in most state universities is Turkish. Tuition fees at state universities vary between 500-2,000 USD/year.

Undergraduate Departments:

Undergraduate education in Turkey takes 4 years. Every student who has successfully completed their high school education in their country and can get the Certificate of Equivalence can enroll in these departments according to their graduation grades. There are many departments, especially Nursing, Midwifery, Emergency Aid and Disaster Management, Dietetics, Audiology, Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation, Biomedical Engineering, etc. Tuition fees at private universities vary between 3,000-5,000 USD/year.

Associate Degree Departments:

Associate degree education in Turkey takes 2 years. Every student who has successfully completed their high school education in their country and can get the Certificate of Equivalence can enroll in these departments with a graduation grade. There are departments where students can work in all areas of health institutions after graduation, especially in the undergraduate departments. Tuition fees at private universities vary between 3,000-3,000 USD/year.
